DIY: Faux Marble Top

Who doesn't love a good DIY project? I recently bought a mustard yellow desk for my home office and as much as I'm a huge fan of the color yellow, this wasn't exactly the theme I was going for, and that finally gave me an opportunity to use the marble contact paper I had recently purchased. YAY.
The entire process is fairly easy, you just require a lot of patience. Although before I get into it, I want to clarify that the measurements of this particular contact paper didn't quite cover the entire top, however, I'm still happy with the end result because the desk has a little bit of character now!

MuzedeChanga, Istanbul

Muzedechanga won Wallpaper* magazine's prestigious award as the best new restaurant back in 07', and I would be lying if I told you it's not the reason I was so eager to dine there! Situated above a museum adorned by stunning marble slabs, this contemporary Turkish restaurant designed by award winning Autoban Design offered more than just good food; the atmosphere was also spot on. We chose to sit outside, even though the weather wasn't exactly as friendly, but the view of the Bosphorus compensated quite a lot for the shakes and shudders, and the staff were kind enough to provide us with pashmina scarves. The interiors mostly consisted of natural oak, characterized by sinuous shapes and geometric patterns that produced that 60's aura. I was fairly impressed by the impact it gave, given the simplicity of the design. Well done Autoban!

St.Regis, Florence, Dec 2014

There's not enough I can say that will do this hotel any justice. It was by the far the best experience I've had to this day. Not to mention that it's situated in one of the most beautiful cities; Florence. Yes, even the sound of that word is an experience of its own.
The St.Regis is an iconic hotel that captures the soul of Florence, it exudes history and warmth. You can't help but notice the breathtaking interiors the second you walk in, and what made it even more beautiful are the welcoming and friendly staff that escort you to the reception area, where you're surrounded by majestic chandeliers, gilt mirrors and coffered ceilings. You have no choice but to feel like royalty at this point. I'm happy to have been exposed to this historic beauty of a palace designed by Filippo Brunelleschi, and will most definitely go back for it one day.

Nursery Inspo

If you're looking for a little bit of inspiration for your nursery, then look no further because you've come to the right place, there's enough creativity packed in this blog post that it may be difficult for you to decide which color scheme or design you would like to go for. Or at least that's how I felt when I gathered up my top 8 nursery interiors (as of now). Take a look below to see what I'm talking about.

The wall art is what first spoke to me.

How To: Declutter

I know, it's the one thing almost everybody dreads but has to be done every once in a while or else you run out space, or even worse, become a hoarder! I'm actually in the process of decluttering myself and thought to share the very simple 'rules' on how to tackle through the process without feeling constantly overwhelmed.

Celebrity Homes: John Legend and Chrissy Teigen

I'm sure we're all huge fans of John Legend, but let's talk a little about his other half Chrissy Teigen, who's known for being outspoken, funny and most importantly relatable. She just tells it how it is and that's why we love her. And yes, I am speaking on behalf of everyone here. After coming across images of what they call home, I felt like it would just be unfair to keep to myself. The tour is definitely worth sharing and you're just about to find out why.
My favorite area would have to be the kitchen; mainly because of the gorgeous color and material combination. I love the dark cabinetry designed by Don Stewart, and even more so the exceptionally beautiful brass stools by Anna Karlin that instantly catch your eye!

Ikea Hack: Console Table

Recently, I've been drawn into transforming affordable furniture into personalised pieces. And my very first experiment was with a laptop table that was purchased from IKEA not long ago. I initially wanted a custom console that would fit a certain area in our home, however, I eventually decided against it, mostly because the whole process was going to consume a lot of time, especially since I would have to sketch a design first! And as much as I would have loved to do that, I was running out of patience as that area was desperate to be occupied.

DIY: Marble Mug

I thoroughly enjoyed this project, and that's mainly because it was quick, amazingly easy and gave gorgeous results.

You will need the following items:
  1. A White Mug
  2. Nail Polish (any kind will do)
  3. Small Tub of Warm Water (preferably one that you don't particularly care for, as it will stain)
  4. Toothpick/Skewer

DIY: Abstract Painting

After 6 whole years of not having any contact with a canvas or a paint brush, I am more than happy to share the end result of the abstract painting I worked on recently. And as always, it was exceptionally therapeutic.

I used pearl acrylic paint for the base and a touch of dark grey and gold.

Console Crush

A console is definitely a piece of furniture you would want to invest in because it could be the only product in the room that could make a difference. Normally consoles are situated against a wall in a hallway, or in any empty space that is in desperate need to be occupied. And they're more of a decorative piece that don't exactly serve a particular purpose; therefore you can get pretty innovative with the design. Nevertheless, it should also complement the rest of your furniture items.
I'm currently on the hunt for a lavish console and found quite a few that caught my attention.

Restaurant Interiors: {Develi, Istanbul}

Develi (Turkish Cuisine) is the very first restaurant we dined in during our stay in Istanbul and was recommended by the concierge of our hotel, whom we are extremely thankful for, as it was overall a very pleasant experience; from customer service, to ambience, and most importantly food.
I was blown away by the spectacular interiors the minute we walked in and was immediately inspired. We were greeted by the manager, who escorted us to our table and gave us a quick run through the menu. However, I simply couldn't resist and instantly stood up to take pictures of the space - yes, it was that beautiful.
The restaurant was designed by Space Architects and Designers and according to the manager, their goal was to generate a modern industrial feel; steering away from the typical traditional Turkish design. Although, I got a sense of Hollywood Regency/Art Deco with their choice of lighting, brass detailing and even style of furniture. The concept on the whole was pleasing to the eyes. Take a look at the images below.

How To: Stuff A Duvet Cover

If there's one thing that frustrates me, it would be making the bed. Mostly because it involves stuffing the duvet cover. It's an exasperating experience every single time. You would think that I would learn to master the art given that I do it on a regular basis, but no. It just gets harder! I would pretty much need to get under the cover like a ghost to spread the duvet in its place to get it right. But it's all worth it in the end, because there's simply nothing better than sleeping in freshly laundered sheets.

Take a look at the video tutorial below by Porch and you will finally discover how to tackle this problem in 60 seconds!

Ikea's Little Secret

A post definitely worth blogging about, and I'm sure by the end of it, your jaw would drop just as hard as mine did. Figuratively speaking of course.
I'm quite the fan of Ikea's products and I'm constantly checking their website for anything new or suitable enough for our home. And I was shocked at their latest reveal on how they showcase their goods through their catalogue. Believe it or not, but the majority of their images are produced on a computer. Yes, a computer. They conclude that it works out better for them as it is a lot more cost effective and eco-friendly. What a strategy huh? But not to worry, as they reassured us that they try the best they can to imitate the actual product they are selling. Take a look below at the digitally generated photos and share your thoughts on the matter.

Inspiration Board {in the making}

Buongiorno!

I'm gathering up inspirational images on how to 'make an entrance' for a client's home that I'm super excited to present. And as you can see below; the color scheme here is quite neutral with a dash of black and gold accents. Quite understated to say the least, however, very sophisticated in style.

How To: Hang Drapery

One of the huge common mistakes that are made (by quite a lot of people) is being completely unaware of how to dress their windows the way they deserve to be dressed. And it's really not that hard. You just need to follow the general rules that I'm about to share with you; and you'll notice the difference a few small adjustments can make to the entire space. After all, we can't deny that it's the drapery that really makes a room feel complete!

Casual Luxe

Here's an inspiration board I recently presented to a client, who is desperately looking to renovate their "beige" living room; and because they are on a tight budget, I included a few pieces from Ikea; like the Rattan side table that not only functions as a table, but also as storage! And we all know that it's something we simply cannot get enough of.
I will be sharing before and after pictures right after the project is complete. Stay tuned!

'n dot interiors' featured in: Marie Claire Maison

Marie Claire Maison {Italia} featured Oman as a potential luxury destination for this month's issue. They also included local talents that represent luxury brands in Oman within the article, and I am extremely honoured and overjoyed to be a part of it, along with other talented designers!
The interview took place at the Bustan Palace; where they asked me a few questions about previous projects and my personal taste. And the photographs were taken in the majestic presidential suite by gifted Italian photographer Matteo Carassale.
Thank you Marie Claire, it truly is a privilege.

Calico Wallpaper

I am currently on the hunt for unique wallpaper and just recently stumbled upon Calico Wallpaper, in which I am very grateful for, as they are beyond sensational and by far the most innovative wallpaper I have come across as of yet!
The admiration mostly comes from their inspiration behind the designs; as they are produced by experimenting with different art forms after extensive research on the 'Arts of Suminagashi' (where paper marbling originates from) and with that, they managed to create a signature of their own. What makes it even more exceptional is the fact that the patterns presented are non repetitive.

n dot interiors {Home}

We recently moved into a townhouse, and I realised that I never shared images of our previous two bedroom apartment that we lived in for just a year and 2 months. I have to admit that I was rather flustered in the beginning, as I put a lot of energy and effort into the space and was far from ready to let go. Although, the part that did not sit well with me at first was discovering that my favorite wallpaper throughout the apartment has been discontinued! That being said, we were desperate for a much larger space and I am more than happy that we decided to make the move.
My taste is somewhat eclectic, I am fan of mixing and matching different items and materials; at the same time preserving a specific flow. I also realised that I constantly gravitate towards neutral colors. Don't get me wrong, I love color too, but I prefer to have them in smaller doses.

And now..The Tour:

The Master Bed from Berhardt Furniture that was graced by the beautiful textured wallpaper (mentioned above).
