Cool And Fresh Living

Based in Florence, Italy, the house of Italian architect Simone Micheli, where he lives with his family demonstrates his trendy and futuristic signature style. One of my favorite things about this design is that Micheli managed to generate his home of urbanity and energy by using 90% eco-friendly materials.

"The Micheli residence is an authentic hyperrealist portrait of the 'Ethical luxury' which is one of the main focuses of his daily architectural searching."

A Collage A Day

Mixed media artist Randel Plowman is my most recent discovery, living and working in Madison, Wisconson, Plowman uses different mediums on paper -which can lead to attaining countless divergent effects, however, the artist forms a rather timeless looking collage which is personally what caught my eye, as the obsolete look is always a plus for me.

“It is often said that we live in a disposable society. When we no longer need or want something we discard it. Things discarded fascinate me. I find beauty, mystery and hidden strengths in the unwanted. It is about taking nothing and turning it into something that intrigues me. Most of the imagery in my work is culled from a wide range of sources. My visual lexicon is composed of diverse images gleaned from old books, maps, dictionaries and other ephemera.”

I have attached my favorites:

Iris

Fredrickson Stallard and Swarovski Crystal Palace have joined forces to create this astonishing brand new assortment corresponding to the human eye, Iris. A design that is composed of four crystal pieces and distinct steel metal parts.

"These are grand structures with antiquarian aesthetics that resemble imposing utilitarian surgical and photographic lamps. Each has an individual outer ‘skin’ created by the careful use of varied natural metal treatments and patinas, ranging from gold leaf to rust."

With the use of those particular materials, Iris impressively personifies the fascination of the human eye.

Marek Tomasik and Electronics

I am not at all knowledgeable when it comes to circuits and electronics, however this latest installation by Polish sculptor Marek Tomasik is profoundly incredible! This sculpture is composed of a hoard of decades worth tons of old computers and electronics, coating the whole room from top to bottom, the space emits a sense of reminiscence. It is always fascinating to see how creative people can get with waste materials.

"Tomasik’s installation takes on a new life that also harks back to an age-old favorite: Tron."

D'espresso Cafe

Nema Workshop have made it pretty obvious what the strategy behind this space is, generating a conspicuous originality for the transpiring brand, they have taken what you would normally see in a library and turned it sideways. D'espresso Cafe, located in Madison Avenue is occupied with lined up sepia-toned pictures of books printed on tiles.

"The frosted glass wall behind the service counter illuminates the space and the wall directly opposite is clad in dark brown herringbone. The thrust of this concept finds expression in the lighting and materiality"

The idea itself is eye-catching and open-minded to prospective locations.

Quench Your Thirst

London's Southbank presents Chowpatty Beach Bar, a bar that offers delicious beverages and the view of a wide-ranging combination of recovered materials. Unlike it's more state of the art older sibling Dishoom, this pop up bar and restaurant designed by Honest Entertainment, happens to be more of a 'paint the town red' version.
I love the use of recycled materials, especially the rolled up newspapers. Artistic work.

Love the frames against diagonal and vertical lines

Superieur: TBL Table

Check out this gorgeous retro-modern looking coffee table by Superieur. Made out of fiberglass, the distinctive curvy shaped table demonstrates an advanced look, also attributable to the light that is captured and casted back.
The tinted top glass is gauzy enough to be able to view the clean-limbed space underneath it. Quality!

MCK Architects: The Honiton House

This modish Honiton Residence is designed by MCK architects. A generous amount of sunlight radiating energy, flows into almost all areas of the house, calling attention to specific details such as the rich organic woods that seem to be a continual feature in every room.
The designers have chosen to add life to this lovely space by the use of bold and zestful colors on certain elements like the pillows, rugs and paintings. I particularly like the stone work and the lattice screens. Quality!

Theo Altenberg

The works of Berlin artist Theo Altenberg is spectacular to the hilt! The beauty of those paintings is that they all look like arbitrary smudges and stains, however if you look attentively you will notice that they seem like three dimensional images of surroundings and silhouettes.
I like his use of colors, they are very bright and bold that it emanates somewhat of a dramatic sense.

Kawamura Ganjavian: Ostrich Pillow

Owning this 'Ostrich' pillow would certainly be favorable to almost everyone, especially if you are someone that needs a power nap to revive.
The pillow garment offers a micro milieu and not only does it cushion your head, but your hands too! It may be a bit too comfortable that it could cost you your job, but I'm sure the nap would be worth it :)

Alexander Nowotny: Hofstede Optiek

Designed by architect Alexander Nowotny and located in Hague, Netherlands, this retail space is set to emanate leisure and mysterious attraction. When looking at the interiors from the facade, you notice that the curvy build from floor to ceiling highlights the elements and depth of the area, succeeding in enticing customers to walk in and making it more of an experience for them.
My favorite part would have to be the use of LED lights and mirrors within the space, it emphasizes and magnifies the organic shaped structure they have going on, which I feel, makes it even more inviting.

Markus Johansson: Cirrata Octopus Lamp

It is pretty obvious what exactly inspired Swedish designer Markus Johansson, right? This unconventional piece of work is made out of corian polymer, one of my favorite (costly) materials because it radiates modernism and can be molded it into any shape or form that you desire.

Jaw-Dropping French Vintage Chairs!

I utterly savor those beautiful French vintage chairs! Makes me want to acquire one at this very moment! The chairs are available at Jayson Home & Garden. Each chair has a different authentic finish and they have all been re-upholstered in collectable Belgian grain sack, isn't that just amazing? It gives off the worn-out look which makes it even more perfect.

Todd Schliemann's Design For The Standard Hotel

The avant-garde hotel located in New York City consists of 317 guest rooms, a number of restaurants, bars and a gym. It stands on stilts 18 storyes higher than the High Line, which conjure up French architect Le Corbusier's work among other outstanding global buildings.

“The design celebrates the opportunities and challenges of interacting with the High Line, an abandoned, elevated railroad line, which has been developed as a new linear public park. The Standard engages its urban context through contrast, blending unique architectural and structural concepts within a complex and changing urban fabric. Sculptural piers, whose forms clearly separate the building from the orthogonal street grid, raise the building fifty-seven feet off the street, allowing the horizontally-scaled industrial landscape to pass beneath it and natural light to penetrate to the street. "

'Equilbrium' Bookcase

Designer Alejandro Gomez has generated an 'equilibrium' bookcase that can carry just over 54kgs for his studio, not only is it tasteful but it's also just as practical! It's hard to believe that with the way it has been designed, but what holds it all together is the steel joint that has been especially made to link the pieces and weather the weight of the books.
The exterior is a walnut veneer finish and you get to customize the interior as they have various colors to choose from.

"The cantilevered design forces the load of the weight towards the center, while the tilt of the compartments replaces bookends with the force of gravity, keeping books together."

The Baud Collection

Trend Design Collection by Filipino Designer Vito Selma:

"Few languages capture the essence of the wave quite like the Cebuano variant; almost perfectly emulating the smoothness and solidness of water as it crashes against the surf, the sift and swirl of water as it curls inward and out from itself. This collection is a tribute to the ocean that has forever kept the island city of home… home in its undulating embrace."

It looks like an enlarged wrist accessory. I love.

Terence Chang: Long Exposures

Now this is something you wouldn't expect to see. Terence Chang shot long exposure photos at the SFO airport (San Francisco) of planes taking off and landing! It's as if as though the planes are painting the night sky with their lights. It's so much easier to believe that photographs like these have been manipulated, it displays a beautiful distinction which makes it undeniably spectacular! I love.
